It
can be terrifying when we hear of someone committing suicide. Imagine entering
your compound and right before you, a body dangles from a tree. Your first instinct
is to be scared and then scream. There are many ways to commit suicide – I mean
to take one’s life. But just what is it that compels a person to decide to end
his life? Is suicide a solution? Or is it an attitude? One preacher describes
suicide as a permanent solution to a temporary matter. So, suicide is indeed a permanent
solution, meaning that a dead person cannot solve his problem.
Do
you think that just because something disappointing or awful happened to you,
then you should take your life? Do you think that life itself is mad at you?
Can you really find solace or comfort in taking your life? What can be
weightier than life? If you think that suicide is the best option then you may
never have understood all along that you are not a happening dude. You are the
most interesting personality that God conceived in his mind. Suicide is a
permanent solution only for the dead but it is never an option for the living!
It is the twin brother of failure. So, people who took their life never
understood there was a reason for their existence – something of more value
than anything else.
Suicide
is itself a wrong attitude. It is an attitude that depicts cowardice, and lack
of faith. When all hope is lost, then you should have faith. Hope is a waiter, faith is a grabber. When the devil gives you a rope to hang you, create a noose
and give it back to him. This can only happen when you are conscious of the
very fact that your life didn’t occur by mere happenstance. Rather you are a
solution that God created for anybody to consult. So it is a wrong attitude to
contemplate committing suicide because it shows an acceptance of failure. Many
people who decided to kill themselves may not have reflected on why they
achieved so much. There are people who made sacrifices for their dreams and
indeed their dreams were wonderful but if only they had sought to know the creator
of their dreams, they would have been more than what they were. Suicide is amanifestation of the devil’s hatred for your existence. He hates that you
should live a fulfilled life. Rather he prefers that you achieve all there is
in the world and end up killing yourself. It is therefore not surprising when
we hear of a certain celebrity committing suicide.
Suicide
only focuses on self. Amazingly, people who kill themselves are selfish. They have
been nursing a wrong mindset that life was all about them. Only selfless people
forget about themselves. They rather die in their commitment to improving other
people’s lives than take theirs. So, we find that there are two kinds of people
in this world – the selfish and the selfless. A selfish person would do anything
to please himself. Even if he commits to helping people, all he cares about is
the fame and acknowledgement. In the end, he kills himself. A selfless person
sees himself as a servant for a higher purpose as he renders his act of
charity. He considers himself to be nothing in the eyes of God – not because he
belittles his worth but rather he knows that when he is long departed, his name
will never be forgotten. This is what altruistic people desire – to leave a good name and an unforgettable mark.
If
your life’s pursuit is glory, fame and wealth – which is not bad – instead of using
them as a means to fulfilling a more serious purpose then you are of all men
miserable. So, the miserable commit suicide because all along, they care about
themselves and about what those of their ilk would think of them if they should
alter the status quo. But you are never like that. You are created with compassion
and all of God’s resources have been vested in you to fulfil his purpose. Never
forget that. Suicide is an attitude; it’s never the solution to a problem. It ends
the person’s life and not the issues in his life. The best way is to commit youto solving people’s problems from a genuine heart. In this way, suicidalthoughts get paralyzed.
