A Ghanaian taxi driver has turned to an over-night celebrity
and has been handsomely rewarded by the Ghana Police Service, the President and
management of a shopping mall after he assisted in the arrest of two armed
robbers in Accra.

A taxi driver who assisted in the arrest of two armed
robbers in Accra, the capital of Ghana on January, has been presented with
a Toyota Corolla car by IGP John Kudalor
at the Ghana Police Service Headquarters on Monday.

It was gathered that the two suspected robbers identified as
Abaliku Sannie, 35 and Oko Quaicoo, 30, shot an Administrative Assistant of
Koala Shopping Mall, after she had left the Cantonment branch of the company.

The taxi driver, who witnessed the incident, stopped the
fleeing shooters by ramming his taxi into a motorbike they were using to escape
leaving his taxi badly damaged. He also prevented some angry youth who tried to
lynch the suspects who were later arrested by the police after surviving the
attack.
The supermarket’s management presents him with a new car
The driver’s heroic act has since been commended by many,
including former President J.J. Rawlings and President John Mahama who awarded
him with a house. He was also presented with a brand new Chevrolet Optra (Sedan
) Saloon car by Koala Supermarket.
